I had a quick phone chat with the hiring manager, then went on-site for an interview with two technical support folks and two potential hiring managers at NetApp. I got an offer pretty fast, within a week. But then things got weird because HR didn't tell me. A recruiting firm they use contacted me to say I was hired. Salary hadn't even been brought up, and I was totally lost. Turns out the manager had forwarded my resume to the recruiting firm behind my back, which messed me up because I thought the offer was coming from NetApp HR. I guess I should've realized when the manager was talking up how NetApp is the only big IT company around here, even mentioning Koch but we agreed they aren't really in the IT game. He said they could basically pick and choose who they want because they're the only major IT company in town. That didn't sit right with me given my IT experience, and I'm just looking to get back into IT with a junior role to see what NetApp is all about. My family's in town, so I moved back and figured I'd check out this company everyone online and in Wichita was talking so highly of. I've worked for a California company before, so I know what a good company feels like. NetApp wasn't it based on this interview. I've never had such a bad interview experience. People in Wichita should get the experience they need and then leave after a couple of years. They can make way more money in bigger cities and not be treated like dirt.

A friend who works at NetApp referred me, giving my resume to their manager. A NetApp corporate recruiter then contacted me to schedule a phone interview and later an in-person interview, also sending details about the role. I had to complete a thorough online application on the NetApp website. The phone interview lasted about an hour with a Senior Technical Escalation Engineer, covering both my personality and technical background. For the in-person interview, I met with two Technical Support Engineers from the team I'd join (one of them being the same person from the phone interview), and then I spoke with the hiring Technical Support Manager. The company was very responsive throughout the process, usually replying to emails and calls within a couple of hours. Quick and efficient communication is key in this fast-paced environment, so be ready to respond promptly.

Got a call from the recruiter for a phone screen. Then, they set up a Technical Panel Interview and a Manager Interview for the next week. Both of those onsite interviews were an hour each and back to back. A few days after that, the recruiter called with an offer.
