I got referred by someone at the company. The recruiter was great and quick to reply to emails, answering my questions within a day or two. After an initial chat with the recruiter, I had a video call with a Director of Product Management. This interview focused heavily on my past work and product launches. Interestingly, the interviewer kept glancing at his phone throughout the hour-long meeting, even from the start. We spent about 45 minutes discussing my experience, and then were supposed to do a 15-minute case study. When we finally got to it, we only had 5 minutes left. I rushed through the case study, and the interviewer wasn't very responsive to my questions and seemed to have a predetermined answer.

The hiring process was not great. I first went through about 3-4 initial interviews. Then I had a longer round with 6+ interviewers. The recruiter gave me good feedback initially, but then I heard nothing for about two weeks, despite my attempts to follow up. The hiring manager then scheduled a second 1:1 with me. I thought this would be a more serious discussion, but he just asked basic resume questions and ended the meeting after about 30 minutes. I received a rejection about a week later, and at that point, I wasn't very invested anymore.

Read reports →“I have three concerns about NerdWallet: 1. The case study they sent me boiled down to "which credit card should we recommend to users so as to make NerdWallet the most money?" But NerdWallet also claims that they give unbiased recommendations. So do some due diligence on the company's ethics to find out whether the case study really reflects how they make recommendations or not. 2. Their recruiting was highly disorganized. They posted essentially the same position through multiple channels (recruiter, LinkedIn, craigslist, their own web site) with slightly different descriptions and slightly different titles and seniority levels. There was lots of confusion between my contacts with the recruiter and subsequently with them directly. 3. I'm not sure how NerdWallet will ever make money. Advertising doesn't seem like a good bet since users will only come to their site when they want to make major purchases...not too often. And any taking of referral fees by NerdWallet erodes their claim to give unbiased advice.”
