The hiring process felt belittling and revolting for senior developers. While the HR/Recruiting team was charming and friendly, the interviewers (or code reviewers) came across as pretentious and belittling. A significant amount of time was spent demonstrating abilities without recognition, only for the reviewer to copy-paste critiques found on development blogs.

I started with an assessment test that was pretty telling and a bit tough. After passing that, they mostly wanted to chat to see if I'd be a good fit personality-wise and if I'm not difficult to work with. They seemed to pick up on my passion for my work and how this field fits into my life. I think The Nerdery does well because they hire people they can trust, who are already self-motivated, and genuinely care about their work and the people around them.

So, the interview process started with a phone call where they wanted to get a feel for my experience. After that, I got a coding assignment that took about 10 hours to complete. Finally, I had a panel interview with some of the senior front-end developers. We talked about the coding assignment I did, and they asked about my choices in designing it.
