Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NERA.
Consultant
The HR was really nice and did a screening interview for about 30 minutes. After that, I had a 2-hour test. The test was tough, covering econometrics, micro, macro, logic, finance, and maths brain teasers with 33 questions. Topics included game theory, Nash equilibrium, regression, option valuation, WACC calculation, and indifference curves for complements. It had multiple choice and open questions. Then, I interviewed with two consultants who focused on small details from my CV, like how to calculate a 150% productivity increase. They mentioned the process is ongoing and not to worry if I don't hear back soon. I don't expect an offer.
- Can you describe your day-to-day responsibilities?
- Do you enjoy managing a team, and if so, have you done it before?
- What technical knowledge is applicable to your daily work?
Consultant
The interview process involved a 30-minute HR chat and two case study sessions. The HR person asked some questions about my motivation, like why I'm interested in NERA and this particular practice. Everyone, including the HR person and the consultants doing the case studies, was really nice and friendly.
- Could you tell me why you are interested in NERA?
- What are your motivations for applying to this specific practice?
- Why did you choose to apply to NERA?
Consultant
The interview process started with a 1-hour assessment on basic economic concepts like microeconomics and game theory. The first round involved an HR interview, a case study on energy topics (which took about 3 hours total, I'd skip the written part though), and a written assessment. The HR part covered my experience and motivations. The case study was pretty standard. The second round had another case study, similar to the first, plus questions about my motivation and background. They also wanted me to review basic micro concepts such as elasticity, public goods, and supply/demand.
- We'd like to discuss the supply and demand of energy and how taxation affects it.
