First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NEOGOV.
Senior Software Engineer
The first round was a live coding challenge where I had to identify duplicate characters in a string. The difficulty was moderate. Following the coding task, I was asked several technical questions covering SQL Server (specifically indexes, query optimization, and parameter sniffing), ASP.NET MVC (including error handling and routing mechanisms), and a question about Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
- Could you explain how to find duplicates within a string during a live coding session?
- Regarding SQL Server, can you elaborate on indexes, query performance, and the concept of parameter sniffing?
- In ASP.NET MVC, how would you implement a global error page, and can you explain the routing process?
Software Engineer
It was a regular hangouts interview. The interviewer asked about my projects, and I explained them. Then, they asked some questions about my projects, which I also explained. Overall, it went really well.
- Tell me about your academic projects.
- Explain your academic projects.
- Address doubts about your academic projects.
Software Developer
The interview process was really unclear and not transparent at all. I had to keep chasing them for updates even though I was in the running. The reason they gave for rejecting me—something about a specific skill—didn't match the job posting or anything we talked about. That skill wasn't even in the job ad. I also asked if there were any women on the interview panel, and that question was just dismissed. It was super disappointing and felt like they were trying to keep me out.
- The interview that was promised after the screening was suddenly cancelled, and an inaccurate reason was provided when I inquired.
- I was promised an interview after the initial screening, but it was unexpectedly rejected, and when I asked for clarification, I was given an untrue reason.
