Consultant
It was a three-step process, and everyone was really friendly. The third interview was like a mock training session. The second interview was a chat about my past work experiences; it felt more like a conversation, and they were super nice.
- Tell me about a challenge you faced during a past training session and how you handled it.
Customer Success Manager
The hiring process was a mess and lacked diversity. The recruiter was nice, but admitted she was new due to how bad their hiring has been. She was right. The interviews were all with white cishet women. They sent me a data sheet for two employees and asked me to create a check-in for them and the whole team. I spent hours on it, making notes and templates. They didn't even review it beforehand. During my presentation, they interrupted with questions that would have been answered later. They seemed to have no plan and talked over each other.
- Based on the provided data for two employees, prepare a check-in plan for them and the entire team.
- Develop meeting templates to facilitate employee check-ins.
- Present your findings and proposed check-in strategy.
UI/User Experience Designer
So, I had a really bad experience interviewing with Nearpod. I'd heard some things about them in South Florida, that they weren't a great place to work, and they even acknowledged it in the interview. They say they're always improving, but based on this, they haven't quite gotten there. One thing that surprised me after several interviews was the lack of diversity – everyone I met, recruiters, team members, managers, were all white women, mostly millennials. I thought I was a good fit and my portfolio showed I could do the job, but they passed on me. They've reposted the job, so it seems they passed on everyone. It's crazy that it takes them over 4 months to hire someone in this market. It's really unprofessional to use interviews as a research project; they should just fill the position. It's unbelievable that they couldn't find a candidate, especially now when people need work. Stop wasting our time. HR communication was poor, I didn't get any updates even after interviewing for hours. Nearpod needs to rethink what company culture really means and make their hiring process match what they say their culture is. Hope they get 'there' faster than it takes to hire a UX Lead.
- They seemed disappointed I hadn't downloaded their software before the interview. So, do candidates absolutely have to install your software on their computers to be considered? That's crazy.
- Why do UX designers even bother creating portfolios if installing software is a requirement?
- There were a lot of UX improvements that could be made to your website, but they weren't interested in discussing those.
Sales Representative
I applied online and then got a call to schedule a phone screen. The interview felt conversational, and it was clear the pay wasn't going to be what I wanted. The next interview was a video call with two team members that lasted about 30 minutes. The questions were okay, but I think we all realized the job wasn't really a good fit because they seemed to want someone more junior. Four days later, I heard back that they weren't moving forward with my application.
- Can you describe your present sales job?
