My interview experience began with a phone call with the recruiter, which had initially been postponed. The questions asked were pretty standard and focused on my professional background. The second interview was with the Head of PMO and was also initially scheduled as a phone call. However, due to a technical issue connecting to my phone, it switched to a video interview without video, which was a bit unusual. In this interview, they asked more specific questions about the Program Manager role and education/certifications. It then became clear I didn't have a PMP certification. The interviewer suddenly stated it was mandatory and that was that. This was surprising because the job description only mentioned it as preferred, not required. The abrupt change was off-putting, so I thanked them for their time and ended the call.

Someone reached out to schedule a phone interview. During the phone interview, they asked about my resume and experience. The next day, I was invited for an in-person interview the following week. The in-person day had 5 interviews, each lasting about 30 minutes. I first met with an HR person for typical HR questions like, "What would you do if....". Then, I spoke with three people from the department I'm applying to, and the conversation was more casual and focused on my actual experience. I wrapped up with an HR director who asked about my strengths, like "what is your great strength". I heard back within a week and was told they wanted to offer me the job, pending a background check and reference check. It took about 3 weeks to hear back after that, but then I got the offer.

This was the hardest interview I've gone through. The person interviewing me really dug deep, asking for tons of detail about each job I'd had and specifically how they were complicated. "Complex" is the main thing they were looking for. It's not like other interviews where they ask broad questions to get a sense of your personality and why you want to join them. They need to see you're analytical and demand specifics. You have to be able to break down difficult subjects because that's a huge part of the job.

HR scheduled me for a phone interview with an HR employee. I got a bad vibe from her. She wanted to go over my resume in detail, but she hadn't reviewed it beforehand. She accused me of looking at the company website while answering a question about what I knew about the company. I had to end the conversation. It was a bad experience.
