First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NC State Employees' Credit Union.
Internal Investigator
The interview was in a calm environment and I spoke with one person. It was pretty casual overall, and they asked a variety of questions about ethics and how I'd handle different situations. I also learned a lot about SECU and the internal hiring and growth opportunities. If they're hiring for multiple roles, they'll let you know after all the interviews are done.
- Besides weaknesses, what's an area where you're not particularly strong?
Technical Writer
I had an initial phone interview with the hiring manager, then an in-person panel interview with the hiring manager, another manager, the department director, and a team member. The interview seemed to go well. After the interview, I exchanged a few follow-up emails with the hiring manager, who was collecting reference information and confirming my interest in the role as she was retiring soon. My references were contacted, and I expected an offer, but then I heard nothing, no rejection or anything. It was disappointing to get so far and then have poor communication.
- What do you know about the credit union?
- What makes you unique?
- What would your manager say are your greatest strengths?
Financial Services Officer
The interview process was pretty straightforward. First, you get a call for a phone interview with a few current employees who are involved in hiring. After that, you'll come to the office for a face-to-face interview. Following that, you'll most likely have a group interview, but don't worry, there are usually several open positions they're hiring for. Typical interview questions are asked in the face-to-face group interview. After that, you'll receive an offer of employment.
- Can you name a positive character trait you don't have?
- How would you handle angry members?
- Describe any previous experience and its relevance.
Financial Services Representative
I applied in person with my cover letter, resume, and a completed application at a local branch. I was contacted within 10 days to schedule the interview. I arrived 15 minutes early, dressed professionally, wearing a suit and tie. The manager introduced himself, offered me a beverage, and took me to an empty office. We chatted about pleasantries and the weather before getting down to business. The manager went into depth about the position, which answered many of my own questions. Overall, it was a great interview. I felt very confident and after an hour, I pretty much assumed I had the position.
- Can you describe how you work with colleagues and provide an instance of resolving a conflict with a coworker?
- What makes you the ideal candidate for this role?
- How do you interact with other employees, and can you share an example of a time you resolved an issue with a coworker?
