Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Navy Exchange.
Sales Associate
The interviewer asked the usual questions, like why I picked this specific exchange over other retail stores (hint: saying you're broke and have a cat to feed isn't a good answer). They also asked about my work ethic, my past experience, and what I could contribute to the team. Since it was a seasonal job at the time, it was pretty much an immediate hire, with questions about my start date and when to come for training. Nothing too unusual about the process.
- Can you share an instance where you made a customer feel valued at your previous job?
Sales Associate
I had a one on one chat with the department manager. She asked about my current goals for school and work. She threw in some "What if.." and "What would you do..." questions, and I had to explain some tough situations from past jobs. She also checked my availability and school schedule to see if I could fit in work. The whole thing took less than 20 minutes. I heard back in a few days that I got the job.
- Can you tell me why you're interested in working for our company?
- Describe a time at a previous job when a customer created an issue and no manager was available. What did you do to resolve it?
Sales Associate
It was a really nice and welcoming experience. My previous manager, who left after a year, was great and made me feel super comfortable, like I was just chatting with a friend. The whole thing took about an hour. They gave me a tour of the store, explained the policies, and told me about when shipments would arrive. I felt really respected throughout.
- What suggestions do you have for improving the work environment?
