First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Navigators.
Intern
I had 3 interviews. The first was with two junior employees, and the second was with the head of the department. The interviews were mostly behavioral, focusing on my interests in finance and why I was interested in Navigators. It was all very straightforward and everyone was really nice.
- Why did you choose to interview at Navigators?
Underwriter
First, I spoke with a recruiter who was very direct. They asked me basic questions like why I was interested in underwriting, what underwriting entails in the insurance industry, and why I chose to apply to Navigators. Then, I was set up to talk with the hiring manager for a second interview. This conversation covered topics like my future career goals, behavioral questions, and my personal strengths.
- What is your motivation for pursuing a career in underwriting?
- Could you explain the role and responsibilities of an underwriter in the insurance sector?
- What attracted you to apply for a position at Navigators?
Actuarial Intern
An old intern gave my resume to HR. HR called me a few months later. The first interview was a phone call, which was standard and pleasant. Then I was invited for an in-person interview. I met two people there. It was also standard and as expected. I got a call a few weeks later saying I got the job.
- Why are manholes round?
- What is an actuary?
Underwriting Assistant
It was a pretty standard process, starting with a phone chat with HR. Then I had video interviews with all the managers. They didn't really do formal questions, more like just chatting to see if we'd get along. They also seem to say whatever you want to hear to get you to join.
- What specific skills do you possess that would be beneficial for this role?
