First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Navan.
Product Manager
First, there was a call with a recruiter who wanted to talk about specific products I've worked on to see if they're a good fit for the role. Then, I had a hiring manager screen where they mainly asked about my background, how I prioritize things, and for an example of a feature I shipped from start to finish.
- Can you describe a feature you successfully shipped from start to finish?
Product Manager
So the interview process went like this: First, I talked to the hiring manager. Normally there's an HR screen, but they were short-staffed. After that, I had a take-home case, and then a presentation to a panel of mostly people more senior than me. Finally, there was a series of three 1:1s with people from Product, Engineering, and the CPO. One thing I'd suggest is to be more specific about the business area for the product role in the job description. The JD was pretty generic, and I only found out the actual area during the first interview.
- How would you validate a product solution when you don't have data or A/B testing available?
Product Manager
I had a decent and positive talk with an internal recruiter at Navan for about 30 minutes until she suddenly seemed concerned, almost offended, that I no longer work at the most recent position on my resume. It was like she just ignored the dates I'd listed on my resume for this job title. She didn't directly address her apparent concern that I voluntarily left my last job, but after building up my excitement throughout this call, she rather abruptly stated that I'm a very strong candidate but not qualified for this position due to my lack of experience with people management. I pointed out that the job listing did not state any expectations or planned responsibilities around people management or direct reports. The interviewer responded that she would edit the job listing to include this requirement. The listing was never updated.
- Could you tell me about your past work experience?
