First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nationwide Building Society.
Risk Analyst
I interviewed at Nationwide a few years back with three white males. It went poorly. I didn't plan to leave a review until I saw they promoted someone with a history of making racist remarks. It seems they only hire and promote people who look like them. If you're from a marginalized group, I'd suggest not applying.
- I don't remember the specific questions asked since it was a few years ago.
Risk Analyst
I applied online, then did an online test. After that, I had an interview at HQ. Following the interview, I was given 25 minutes to complete an analysis test. This test had 5 questions, including some text and graphs. I had to explain what the graphs showed and why, for example, why mortgage rates were increasing or decreasing, or why people weren't paying their mortgages at that specific time.
- Can you explain the trends shown in the graphs and the reasons behind them, such as changes in mortgage rates or reasons for non-payment?
- How do you build relationships?
- How do you engage with others?
Risk Analyst
I applied by sending in my CV and cover letter. A week later, I got an invite for online numerical tests, which were tougher than expected but manageable with practice. Two weeks after that, I had a call and email to schedule an interview for the following week. A few days later, HR sent an analytics exercise to finish within 24 hours, which we'd discuss in the interview. It involved mock data and graphs, and I had to answer 5 questions based on them. The interview itself was with two friendly senior managers. It started with general questions and a chat about my CV, then 4-5 competency questions they'd sent beforehand, followed by questions about the analytics exercise I'd submitted. They said I'd hear back in about two weeks, and they did get back to me with a verbal offer just under that time. TIPS: Use the STAR method for competency questions. Ask questions at the end. Show off your analytical and decision-making skills.
- Can you describe a situation where you had missing information and explain how you found it?
- Share an example of when you provided an analytical contribution to a project.
