Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nationwide Building Society.
Customer Service Representative
It was a great interview process, but the response times to issues I encountered were horrible. HR confirmed my interview two hours before I was supposed to go, even though it had been booked a week in advance. I didn't get any details about the interview.
- What is your motivation for wanting to work here?
Customer Service Representative
The Nationwide interview process felt more like a casual chat than a formal interview. It had three parts. First, they asked about me, my background, and why I was interested in the role, which felt very natural and conversational. Then, they asked behavioural questions, where I used the STAR method to share examples of my skills, like problem-solving and teamwork. Lastly, there was a role-play exercise, which I really enjoyed because it gave me a chance to show how I would handle customer interactions and resolve issues. The interviewers were lovely, approachable people, and they made me feel so comfortable throughout the process. Although I didn’t hear back, which I wish I had, I really appreciated how enjoyable the whole experience was.
- Can you share an instance where you made an error?
Customer Service Representative
Once I got to the interview part, I was really pleased with how nice and helpful the interviewers were. They didn't just ask the usual stuff and actually encouraged me to talk about my own experiences, letting me show who I am instead of making me fit a mold. It felt more like chatting with colleagues than a formal test, which helped me naturally show how much I care about customer service.
- Can you describe the most difficult customer you encountered?
