Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NationBuilder.

It was a relaxed and interesting interview. I was asked one question and we talked for about 20 minutes about happiness and the meaning of life. The approach was interesting because it allowed for a natural conversation. It was a question I don't get asked often.
- What is the hardest thing you've ever had to do.
Organizer
The application process at Nation Builder is a bit strange and complicated. First, you submit your resume and a tweet-like cover letter. Then, you get an email asking you to write an essay about a leadership experience. After that, you have to do the 24-hour Nation Builder Challenge, which is a website-building task. I didn't get any feedback on that. About a week later, I got an email for a Skype interview with a staff member. It was hard to find out how many steps were in the process or when decisions would be made. It's been a week since the Skype interview, and I'm still waiting to hear back. I know hiring can take time, but the company is advertising that they're actively hiring, so there should be more clarity. It's frustrating to be left in the dark, especially when I've been looking for a job for a while.
- Can you describe an instance where you demonstrated leadership?
Organizer
This is a long process. It will take you several weeks to speak with anyone just to get started, no matter how good you are. Internal recommendations don't help and can be a hinderance. Be careful - They will give you an offer letter, but you are NOT really hired until after 4 weeks. If you don't make it past the testing process or final demos with the CEO you will be let go. Only one or two people make it through this process, even if there are 10 people or more in your training class.
- How much do they care about your personality and ability to fit into the company culture?
