First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
Special Events Manager
It was a three-round interview process. We started with a phone screen with HR. Then, I had a second interview with a mid-level manager. The final interview was in-person with the VP of Events and the VP of Corporate Giving.
- Are you more of a hunter or a gatherer, and can you explain your reasoning?
Graphic Designer
I went through three rounds of interviews and actually really enjoyed talking to the team. I got a good understanding of what the role would be like from the person I would report to. But then after the final interview, they totally ghosted me. No response at all, and then like a month or two later, I got an automated message. It was super disappointing how they handled communication.
- What is your motivation for seeking employment with this company?
Visitor Services Associate
It was a really simple, one-on-one chat with the associate director of visitor services. Mostly standard customer service type questions, and they dug a bit deeper. The interview felt chill and didn't last long, and nothing really out of the blue came up.
- Tell me about a time you had difficulty working with a previous manager.
- Can you share an instance where you delivered outstanding customer service, and describe how you did it?
- What are your thoughts on working in a fast-paced setting?
Retail Sales Associate
This was the worst interview ever. It was supposed to be a group interview, but it was just me and one other person with two interviewers. They seemed really insecure. All they wanted to know was what I'd do if someone bad-mouthed supervisors and managers. They didn't care about anything else besides workplace gossip. I just needed a job, and it's been tough finding one, especially after my grandma passed. I was upfront about everything, but they were fixated on work gossip. Even when I got the job offer, the guy talked to me for an hour about work gossip too! They need to get new people to run that place; I can already see the issues.
- What would you do if an employee bad-mouthed the managers to you? How would you handle it, and would you report it to management?
- Would you report workplace gossip you overheard to the managers and supervisors?
