First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National Recreation and Park Association.
Corporate Relations Manager
The interview process has been smooth so far. It took some time to get a response at first, but everyone has been responsive and easy to talk to. I liked their real excitement for the company.
- How do you reach out to corporate partners to get their support?
Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy
The search was handled by McCormick Group. I had multiple interviews with them first. Then, I interviewed with the CEO, followed by a second in-person interview with the NRPA senior staff, and then another with subordinate staff. I felt like a serious contender after four interviews, so I was disappointed that no one let me know when they selected another candidate. The search firm and NRPA HR were sloppy. Even a quick email would have been nice.
- Tell me about your experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion in large organizations.
Communications Manager
I met with HR manager, hiring manager and another team member for about an hour. They told me I would be brought in for another interview to meet more of the team, and they kept emphasizing that 'fit' was important to them. I was surprised to get an offer after just an hour, especially since 'fit' is important to me too. I asked if I could come back in to meet more of the team, but they said no. I also asked for an extra day to decide, but was told no again. So, I declined the offer.
- Can you share an instance where you managed a challenging situation and describe the result?
Program Specialist
The process involved a phone screening, then a large group interview with 5 people, followed by a writing prompt, and finally an interview with the department's VP. It took a few months but was a smooth process.
- What kind of work environment do you prefer?
