First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Postdoctoral Researcher
I applied for the post-doctoral fellowship through the National Research Council Research Associateship Program (NRC-RAP). I looked over the general research opportunities for the different agencies on the NRC-RAP website. Then I reached out to a staff scientist at NIST whose research was interesting to me to see if they wanted to work with me and to chat about research ideas. For the application, I had to submit a research proposal, get recommendation letters, and send transcripts. They offered me a postdoctoral fellowship to do the research at NIST.
- You must create a research proposal that aligns with the interests of the agencies involved in the NRC-RAP.
Researcher
I met with some principals from the Advanced Tech Project, which is no longer active. They were all professional and skilled, and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me, and I felt the same way. Then I met with more principals from that same project.
- Are you qualified?
Postdoctoral Researcher
It all started with an email, after which I arranged a phone interview. I had a phone interview that was about 30 minutes and pretty informal, followed by a 20-30 minute Skype seminar.
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
