Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National Income Life.
Manager
I was emailed by a recruiter and then had a quick phone interview with them. After that, I was invited to the Flushing office for an in-person interview and told to dress in business attire. Once there, I filled out a questionnaire and then had a short, easy interview with a manager. Following that, I was invited to a presentation with other candidates. We were given a presentation about NILICO's business, including how they find leads, what they sell, and their commission-based compensation structure. It seemed like a sales pitch, and the presenters really wanted us to respond verbally. To finish, we had to stand up and say why we'd be good employees. I was invited for a third interview but turned it down.
- What's the reason for your competitiveness rating of 8 instead of a 10?
Manager
Matt from the Romeo Harding Group of National Income contacted me about a management role. I wasn't sure at first because I hadn't heard of them, but Matt was really convincing and passionate about the company. I decided to go for it. The actual interview was surprisingly straightforward; they didn't ask for specific names and numbers like other places. I was really impressed with their marketing strategies, compensation plans, and potential for career growth. They called me Thursday night and made an offer on Friday, which I accepted. I'll start training in two weeks after giving my current employer my two weeks' notice.
- Are you driven by financial gain or by public acknowledgment?
Manager
First they send an email, if no response, they call a couple days later to set up an interview day. On interview day, there are three interviews: a 5-minute one, a 1-hour one, and a third one of unknown length.
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how competitive would you say you are? Explain your reasoning for the number you picked.
