First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National Gypsum.
Technology Development Program Associate
I went through a 3 hour interview with 3 Managers and 1 Scientist and did a facility tour with another candidate. The hiring process was fast, they called me back the very next day with an offer. The job description doesn't really explain what the day-to-day is like, so they do the tour.
- What draws you to the TDP associate role?
Manager
Had a quick chat with the hiring manager, seemed to go okay. I asked about potential roadblocks and was told there weren't any. They said I'd be brought to HQ to meet the rest of the team, which I was super excited about. But then, radio silence in my inbox for days. Finally heard back from the recruiter saying they decided to go with someone else. The rejection itself wasn't the worst part; it was being led on to think I was still in the running.
- What specific experience do you have with a rare project?
Facilities Maintenance Technician
It was not a great experience. The manager spent the entire interview boasting about his mechanical engineer degree and putting down current and former military personnel. He also spoke negatively about the previous manager and included his political views, which made for a very awkward situation. The interviewer was extremely unprofessional. My advice to anyone applying is that if you don't have a mechanical or electrical engineer degree, don't bother applying. If you do get hired, you can tell from the interviewer's behavior that you will be micromanaged.
- What are your thoughts on machinery?
- Can you answer some electrical questions?
Plant Manager Trainee
I applied on Glassdoor and the recruiter emailed me the same day to set up a phone interview and told me to apply on their website. We had the phone interview three days later and it seemed to go well. The recruiter emailed me after with benefits info, and I thought I'd hear back in about a week. But it's been 11 days and no word, even after I emailed them with more info. They usually reply to emails in one business day, so I think they ghosted me.
