First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National Grid.
Software Engineer Intern
The interview process was okay! They start with a team matching phase, and you have to complete a lot of tests. I think the HireVue is the first step, and not everyone gets past that, but the team matching part is even harder. So, I'd suggest working on that together later.
- Can you share an instance where you upheld National Grid's core values?
Software Engineer
I had interviews with hiring managers from different teams and we went over my CV. They asked me about my background and previous work, and also had in-depth questions about my skills and the technologies I use in my field. They also told me about their team's setup, the industry, and what they expect from new hires.

Software Engineer
First, I had a chat with the recruiter over the phone. We talked about the job and my experience. She was really nice and set up the next interview for me. Then, I had a 45 minute video call on Teams with the hiring manager. He asked me a bunch of technical trivia questions. Some people complained about this part, but it was alright if you know your stuff. I think I missed a couple, but it wasn't a big deal. The final stage was a 3 hour interview. It was 2 hours of technical stuff and 30 minutes of behavioral questions. The tech part included pair programming, reviewing code, and a system design discussion with two engineers or managers. The behavioral part was with a different manager. The whole thing went pretty fast and smooth, and everyone was super friendly. I got the offer on the same day as the final interview.
