First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National Grid.
Finance Analyst
The interview process was a full day of various activities and assessments by different people. Lunch was provided, and there was ample time to relax between activities. Buddies were also available to answer questions and provide guidance.
- What motivates your interest in working at National Grid?
Commercial Analyst
I took some online tests, which were pretty straightforward, not like the tough ones banks usually give. About two weeks later, I got my results and an invite for a 25-minute phone interview. It had two STAR questions and one about company/industry knowledge, pretty standard stuff, and the interviewer asked follow-up questions. When I asked about the company at the end, the interviewer couldn't answer because they were 'just part of the hiring team'. Almost seven weeks after that, I got a Christmas email saying they were swamped and to expect news soon. Another 17 days passed, and I was told they were still doing phone interviews and to hang tight. Thirty-seven days later, I got a weird Valentine's Day email asking for patience, saying they were 'working like cupid to find a match made in heaven'. Twenty-two days after that, I got an email saying they'd made their initial selection for the assessment day. I was essentially put on a reserve list, but by then, I'd already accepted a job with a competitor that I feel has a much more professional and solid hiring process. I'm sure it's a good place to work, but their hiring process felt incredibly drawn out, and most candidates invited to the assessment day will probably have moved on to other opportunities by then.
- What are the main difficulties the company is experiencing, and what strategies does it employ to address them?
- Could you describe a situation where you encountered a significant challenge and how you managed to overcome it?
- Tell me about a time when you had to analyze intricate data and subsequently present your findings.
Principal Economist
A recruiter contacted me via LinkedIn. I then had two calls with the recruiter, spoke with the director, and finally a panel interview. I mentioned upfront that my statistical analysis skills weren't sharp since grad school, but they wanted me to proceed. After I spent a lot of time on their exercise and the panel interview, I heard nothing back, not even to say they chose someone else.
- How would you create a forecasting model to predict hourly demand for an extended period?
- Can you walk us through your methodology and thought process for building the demand forecasting model?
