Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National Geographic Society.
Intern
I applied by sending in my resume and a cover letter. After that, I had a one-on-one with the hiring manager. Then, I went into a panel interview with some people from different departments. The last interview was with either the hiring manager again or some higher-ups. After that, I got the offer.
- What makes you want this job?
Intern
Most interns in 2023 seemed to go through a 2-3 part interview process. I had two interviews myself: one with the direct team and another with an HR person. The interviews were quick, and the questions related well to what the internship required and my own background. Everyone was chill and friendly during the interviews. It's competitive, so be ready and have a solid reason for wanting to join.
- How do you relate to our brand?
- What draws you to intern with the National Geographic Society?
- Specifically, what about this role appeals to you?
Extern
I applied for an externship with National Geographic and The Nature Conservancy. The whole process was very digital, barely any human interaction. I went through a few stages, and my final interview was with someone who just read questions and recorded me, no actual conversation. It was a bit disappointing since it was only an externship, I was expecting a more personal experience.
- Can you share a skill you've developed independently that you're especially proud of?
