First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National Fire Protection Association.
Production Coordinator
We had a phone round first, then I had a full afternoon of interviews with 4 different people. We talked through my resume, and then I met with the people I would be working with. They seemed serious but were easy to talk to.
- Walk me through your general experiences.
- Can you demonstrate the systems and explain the book production process?
Consultant
We had a lot of interviews with multiple teams. They rescheduled a few times, so the whole thing took months. It felt like a waste of time because I didn't get an offer. I'm not sure about the company culture. Based on how the interviews felt, it seems like it might be tough to get projects moving forward.
- Can you describe how you provide support to your teams?
Director
I met with talent management, the hiring manager, peers, and some of the team members. Each of them had questions prepared, but the whole process felt pretty comfortable and engaging. The talent management person started by screening me on my qualifications and if I was actually interested in the job. Then, the hiring manager wanted to know about my experience and how I'd handle the job's goals and objectives, and what I thought about the NFPA mission. The team was more focused on how I'd lead them and be part of their day-to-day interactions.
- Can you describe your experience, professional qualifications, and your style of leadership and management?
- Can you elaborate on the roles you've held in the past and how they relate to the position we're interviewing for?
- Regarding leadership and management, how can we determine if you'd be a good fit for the NFPA and the people you'd be leading?
Instructional Designer
I had several interviews in one day, which was fine, although I didn't realize it ahead of time, nor was it exactly communicated. The interviews were definitely intense and thorough, which also helped drive home that this is a serious job/field/company. It was definitely more high stakes than I realized. In spite of that, I appreciated the process. One thing that did turn me off though: unpaid work to supplement your application. I understand vetting people but you should pay them for their time.
- Can you describe your understanding of best practices and safety?
