NARS Cosmetics Interview Questions
& Process

I talked to the manager and someone else from the team over Zoom. They asked me about my background, why I'm interested in this, and what I knew about nars. It seemed to go okay, but they mentioned I might be a better fit for a different role on another team.

First, I had an initial chat with a recruiter. It was pretty relaxed and just covered some standard behavioral stuff. Then, I had a second interview with two different directors from the International Marketing Team. It was mostly behavioral questions, but they also asked about current marketing campaigns I found interesting and why, potential celebrity brand partnerships, the makeup I was wearing at the time and the reasoning behind it, and my general thoughts on the marketing industry.

It started with a few phone interviews, then I went in twice to meet with the whole team individually. The interviews felt good, the energy was great. I followed up after two weeks and was told they'd get back to me. Another two weeks went by, same answer. I waited for them to reach out but heard nothing. I later found out the position was filled by someone from a different industry. When I asked HR for feedback, they said the chosen candidate had more experience in the beauty industry. It would be great to get real feedback instead of being strung along.

I got an email asking for an interview, and they set a day and place. They also sent a 14-page grooming guideline. When I arrived, the receptionist didn't see me, making me late. The first interview was scripted, with two women; one took notes, the other asked deep questions. It lasted about an hour. I got another email for the second stage with my feedback from the first interview, saying my nails were 'too London.' For the trade test, I had 30 minutes to do a makeup look. They gave me feedback right away and we talked about a NARS boutique makeup look: winged liner and a red lip. I was happy to do it, even though it wasn't my usual style. A few days later, I got an email with feedback listing two cons and about seven or eight cons, most of which were untrue. My model was there and confirmed this, saying things like my hairstyle was misrepresented, and that things my model said about her makeup style were attributed to me. It's strange because you're not allowed to talk about or advise clients on their skin type to avoid offending them, but you need to do that for a full consultation! It felt very unprofessional. They don't care about artistry or individuality at all. Everyone has to look and sell like a robot.
