Customer Happiness Advisor
The hiring process is extremely lengthy for what is a basic call centre job. It starts with a CV and cover letter submission, then you have to send 2 example emails you'd send a customer. After that, there's an AI video interview with 8 questions, followed by a 45 minute phone call. Next, there's a test call with a fake customer, and then another chat which included questions such as “what would I find difficult about managing you?” and “how would you rate your tech skills out of 10?” plus a lot of questions that were repeats that were already asked in the 45 minute call.
- What would I find difficult about managing you?
- How would you rate your tech skills out of 10?
Marketing Manager
First I spoke with a recruiter, then I had a meeting with the marketing leadership. After that, I was given a take-home task that seemed reasonable, with a good amount of time to complete it and plenty of supporting info. The final stage involved discussing this task with two team members. Although they ended up choosing someone else, it was a good experience and the team was really nice.
- What are the key performance indicators you'd use to evaluate this campaign's success, and what hypotheses would you aim to test?
- How would you approach measuring the effectiveness of this campaign, and what KPIs and hypotheses would you focus on?
Data Engineer
First, I had a chat with an external recruiter about the job. Then, there were about 30 minutes of interviews with some team members. It was mostly just talking about my experience, not really diving into the problems they're trying to solve or their current challenges. They seemed more focused on my background and the tools I've used, especially since the manager wants to use a lot of tech they're new to. So, it felt like they're looking for someone who's already proficient with the tools they're just starting to learn. The interview included some very basic SQL questions, specifically about using window and date functions. Honestly, these were super easy if you know how to use them. No other technical questions came up. Overall, a really straightforward interview, mostly checking if I had experience with the specific tools they're currently getting up to speed on.
- Can you write a simple select statement?
- Can you perform a simple join?
- Show me how to use group by with a date function.
Customer Support Representative
I sent my CV by email and got a reply asking for a written response to some typical customer emails and a pre-recorded video interview with basic questions. Then, HR called and basically gave me a reality check about the role, warning me about difficult customers and the pressure. It felt like they wanted me to withdraw my application, making it sound like a 'war zone' instead of customer service for a wine club. After that, I had a mock video call and then a real-time interview. I was later emailed that I was unsuccessful. The role pays £9.40/hour with high expectations, and it feels like a sales role in disguise, pushing add-on products. They were looking for people who 'enjoyed' being shouted at, and my honest answer about handling complaints probably didn't go over well. There's also an expectation to have your camera on during the remote workday, which I found odd. The management seems hierarchical with a focus on presenteeism. I asked for feedback after going through so many stages, but my request was ignored, which I found rude.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Could you provide a written response detailing how you would handle typical customer emails?
- Would you be comfortable with the pressure of dealing with difficult customers?
