First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NAFSA.
Program Manager
It was a really long process. First, I spoke with an outside recruiter. Then, I had a call with HR. After that, I spoke with the hiring manager. Finally, there was an in-person interview where I met with HR again, the hiring manager again, and a group of employees. If you were originally interviewing for one job and then switched to a different one, they made you start the whole process over.
- In what ways does your previous experience prepare you for this specific role?
Coordinator
Applied online and then about a week later, got an email for a phone interview. The phone interview was scheduled for 11 am, which they called about 2 minutes late, and was supposed to be 30 minutes, but didn't quite reach 25 minutes. It seemed to go well. Then, about 3-4 weeks after that, I got an email to schedule an in-person interview.
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
- Do you have experience with HTML?
Associate Director
the director wanted a phone interview during the evening hours which was a first (first red flag). we set a time to speak, I received the call 30 mins late and no apology or acknowledgement of it (2nd red flag). asked me typical interview questions and would cut me off while I was giving my reply. (3rd red flag). I withdrew my application for consideration for the position.
- What can you tell me about your volunteer experiences outside of your professional work?
Senior Coordinator
I sent in my application online and then they got back to me about a month later. I had a phone interview and then later on I had a panel interview. One panel had three people on it and the other panel had the rest of the team I would be working with. They asked pretty direct questions during the interviews.
- Can you share an experience where you managed multiple priorities?
- Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
- What is your interest in NAFSA and this particular role?
