I reached out directly to see if there were openings and was initially told no. Later, they contacted me again because they needed an administrative assistant. The first step was a chat with a team member who asked about my calendar and event planning experience. Even though I didn't have much, he said it was fine and I was still a strong candidate. He then invited me for an in-person interview in NYC a few days later. As I was from out of state, I tried to be flexible with their schedule, but they rescheduled twice, which messed up my travel plans. They eventually said the manager 'barely had time' and booked me for a 7pm interview. The team was super friendly, and I really liked their personalities. When I arrived, I got a tour and mingled, but then had to wait for the manager for about an hour and a half. While waiting for the manager, who was in a meeting, two team members interviewed me because the 'interviewing infrastructure changed at the last-minute.' This interview was great; they were really personable, empathetic, and listened well to my experiences. Finally, I was told to wait for the manager. Nadine Johnson was nice to meet, but seemed exhausted and unprepared. She looked at my resume for a few minutes without asking me anything, which felt a bit insulting since I traveled so far. The whole experience was disappointing due to the unprofessionalism from such a well-known PR firm. The actual interview wasn't much of one. She asked only two questions, shared her life story, and then asked personal questions about my background. Mostly, she talked about how tough PR is and how few candidates are good enough for the role. She finished by asking if I was Jamaican and, based on my hair and skin color, insisted I was black, which felt racist. Then she just said, 'I'll see you out.' I've never been more disappointed by an interview process, especially considering I'm an out-of-state candidate and organized my whole trip around this.

The hiring process felt pretty casual, and my interviewer seemed a bit distracted when our phone chat started. They asked some straightforward questions. Overall, the experience gave me a negative impression of the company. I was told they'd review my application and get back to me either way, but I never heard anything. I even sent a follow-up email and still got no reply. It was really unprofessional. If I'm dedicating my time to interview, they should at least be able to provide a definitive answer.

I applied for an Account Executive role I saw advertised with NYFA. The initial stage was a phone interview with a department director. This was followed by an in-person meeting with the same director, which was a really nice and informative chat where I got to know a lot about the agency, its clients, and what they were working on. After that initial meeting, I also met with Nadine Johnson. The next step involved me doing a hypothetical media strategy exercise. Then, I went back for a second interview with Nadine, and we went over my media strategy together. Finally, I had a third and last in-person interview with a different department director.

I had a 45-minute meeting with 5 employees. We talked about my resume, my life, and why I was interested in working in PR and what I could contribute. The interview took place in a conference room, and they asked me a lot of questions about my personal life and my PR interests.
