Marketing Coordinator
I'm surprised by all of the positive interview experiences when mine was the total opposite. I did three interviews with them, the first two were normal-- no red flags. Then I was asked for an in-person on a Friday afternoon. I arrived a few minutes early and then sat in the lobby for about 20 minutes before they came and got me. At the in-person interview I met with the CEO, the marketing team, and the VP. Everything seemed to go really well I was even told I might be considered for a couple other open positions on the team. I stayed for two hours, and ended up leaving in the middle of rush hour traffic to get back home. After that I was told they would get back to me in two weeks. Well two weeks turned into two and a half months of me checking in on the status of my application and getting responses that I was "still under consideration" with multiple excuses as to why it was taking so long. Finally, nearly three months after my first interview and multiple emails being told "I'm sorry" with an excuse as to why they didn't have an answer yet but that I was still being considered, I got an email that they had decided to go with another candidate. In this brutal job market I think it's extremely inconsiderate and unprofessional to do that to a candidate. I have no problem with being told no, but be upfront. Keeping someone for a two hour interview and being strung along for months on end to ultimately have the rug pulled is not okay and not a company I would recommend anyone work for.
- Can you tell me about your background?
Art Director
I talked to HR in the summer but then got ghosted until September when directors/managers called me back. They explained the job and gave me a design test to do in a few days. I finished the test, and the next week I talked to the creative director. They offered me the job on the spot, asked about salary, and gave me employee numbers to call. They really pushed me to call them to chat about the job. Everyone I talked to was super chill, which was kinda shocking. I was also interviewing elsewhere so I asked for more time to decide, and they were cool with it but super eager to move forward after my second interview. The whole thing took about two weeks, which was weird since I hadn't heard anything for months and thought I was out.
- Can you tell me about your past design experience?
- Do you have experience with package or print design?
Marketing Specialist
I got a call from the recruiter and we had a first phone chat. Then, I was set up for an in-person interview. Getting there was easy, but I had to wait 20 minutes past my scheduled time in the lobby. The place was really open with high ceilings and loud voices, and lots of employees were walking around and talking loudly about a delivery. The lobby had old typewriters that didn't work, and it was hot by the windows, so I wouldn't recommend wearing a jacket. I met with the CSO and one of her team members. The CSO didn't ask many questions and was frequently distracted by her phone, maybe she was even double-booked. It was a bit chaotic, and the conversation was cut short. She then asked me to join a team member to go over her tasks, which took quite a while. Afterwards, the CSO wanted to chat again, but it was very brief, maybe a minute or two, and ended with a 'we'll be in touch.' Be ready to spend a good chunk of time there and leave feeling a bit unclear about things.
- What graphic design experience do you have?
Branding Consultant
The interview process was pretty easy. It started with a phone interview, and then I had an in-person interview with the local office manager. They asked pretty standard questions, and I thought the whole process was fair.
- Can you tell me about your experience in this industry?
- What would you say is your greatest strength?
- And what would you identify as your biggest weakness?
