This was a terrible interview experience. I knew it would be bad from the start, but I stayed out of respect for the CEO. The HR person was not friendly and seemed to be looking for faults, like why I didn't capitalize job titles on the online application. I've worked for big companies where this wasn't an issue as long as the resume and cover letter were good. The recruiter had a negative attitude throughout the interview, which lasted two hours. The biggest issue was when she questioned my desire for Microsoft software proficiency. I said most jobs require it, and she seemed confused. Then, she gave me a test on those same softwares. I had mentioned earlier that I'm fluent in Spanish speaking and reading, but writing is harder, yet she still gave me a Spanish writing test. To top it off, when I offered my hand to say goodbye, she refused to shake it. It felt like a waste of two hours.
- What is your motivation for working in social services?
- Can you explain why you believe proficiency in Microsoft software is important?
- How would you describe your skill level with Microsoft software?
Product Manager
So first, you apply online with your resume, a cover letter, and some quick questions about your background and product ideas. Then, a recruiter sorts through the applications to find the best matches based on experience and culture fit. If you pass that, there's a 30-minute video chat with HR where they'll ask about your background, why you want the job, and if you fit with the company values. They’ll also talk about benefits and work-life stuff. After that, it's a 1-hour video call with a lead product owner. This is where you get into agile, roadmaps, and how you prioritize, maybe even with a case study. The final step is an in-person meeting at the office for a mock product backlog review. You’ll chat with the team and stakeholders, and they’ll see how you handle prioritizing and disagreements.
- So, what is it about this particular role that catches your eye?
Office Manager
I'm sharing this experience hoping that employers and hiring managers reflect on how unprofessional it is to "ghost" candidates. I completed my first interview and was invited to a second. The questions were great, my answers were praised, the conversation was smooth, and it was very informative. I was verbally told I'd be recommended for the third and final interview. After many days of silence, I emailed to follow up, and as you might expect... no reply. Please learn to respect people's time and effort, just as you would want the same decency and courtesy in return.

Career Services Coordinator
I got an email from the recruiter asking to chat on the phone. They asked me about my experience, when I could start, and what my salary expectations were. The pay wasn't what I was looking for, so I decided not to continue with the interview process.
- What is your experience duration in this field?
