MycoWorks Interview Questions
& Process

It was a few rounds, all done online. Each interview was about half an hour. First I talked to a recruiter, then I met with the hiring manager and some other folks on the team. We mostly talked about my past work and how I like to work.

I applied online and got a call from the recruiter. We chatted about fit and they moved me to the next interview with the hiring manager. The coordinator set up a 30-min Zoom call. I joined 10 mins early to test my setup, but a password was needed to get in. I messaged the coordinator and recruiter right away, but they didn't reply until 15 minutes into the meeting, with no apology. When I finally got in, the hiring manager wasn't there. She showed up late and said she left because I wasn't there (which was their fault) and didn't even mention it. We continued the interview awkwardly, like nothing happened. We covered questions about the job, which were okay. I guess we both knew it wouldn't work out, so we just went through the motions. She barely looked at me. The interview was cut short because of the 15-minute delay, and she started passing off questions to the next interviewer, who never showed up. No extra time was given, so my interview was effectively halved. Overall, a very unprofessional experience.

A company recruiter reached out, and that went really well. She then connected me with an HR rep, and that was also an exceptional conversation. I was then looking forward to meeting the hiring manager. Unfortunately, that's where the niceties ended. First off, the hiring manager was late. Second, the interview was more about him and his career progression than about me and my skill set. Oh, and there was a brief mention of the product and some brief samples shown. Here's the kicker: the hiring manager had, like me, a consultant background. So when he asked a very SPECIFIC question about a problem mycoworks was having in relation to 'tray sizes etc, and what I would do to fix them...' that was my cue to give an off-the-wall 'solution' to this clown who was obviously looking for free consulting advice. This guy is on the leadership team, and this alone proves what the company reviews are stating on Glassdoor. This culture is trash and is portraying itself as otherwise. I would avoid this company at all costs. They will waste your time and try to get free consulting in lieu of an actual interview for the role.

The interview process was pretty standard. First, I had a screening call with the recruiter, and then a round with the hiring manager. Some research on MycoWorks showed me that many current employees, including those in senior positions, previously worked together at P&G. While this isn't necessarily bad, it makes you wonder if nepotism is favored. This was a red flag for me, and I likely would have withdrawn my application if I had progressed further. My impression might be incorrect, so I recommend doing your own research to decide.
