First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
Intern
I had a chill interview with the manager at a museum cafe. We talked about my skills and my leadership role in a school group. I heard back about the internship in a few days.
- Do you have an interest in writing, specifically in editorial or press roles?
- Are you interested in writing?
- What is your leadership position at your school organization?
Media Relations Specialist
The hiring timeline was pretty long, I applied in June and didn't get an interview until August. The interview itself was held at the museum, with a member of the Media Relations team. It wasn't super formal, but dressing presentably and artistically was important for an art museum setting. They were really interested in my personal interests.
- Can you tell me about a project where you exceeded the requirements of your role?
Human Resources
Got an email invite for an interview, no phone screen. Scheduled for 3 days with 8 interviewers. The COO was late, kept messing with the blinds, and cut the interview short for a call. She was the only one who didn't smile. Everyone explained the role differently, making it seem like no clear goals or committee discussions. Got a rejection email. Super insulting and unprofessional considering I took 2.5 days off work, paid $100 for parking, and was really interested. Lacked creativity for a creative org, left a bad impression.
- Imagine you were the Queen of HR, how would you go about changing the performance management system?
- In your opinion, is the handbook a significant project?
Sales Assistant
HR sent me an email and we had a phone screening, then I talked to the manager. I thought the one on one with the manager went well and I got the job, but the HR screening was actually more important.
- Do you have knowledge of exhibitions and events?
