First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Murata Manufacturing.
Sales Planner
It was a video conference meeting using MS Teams with two supervisors and the manager. It was a standard Q&A, with each person asking one or more questions. It went very well, and the manager said it was a great interview. I've heard nothing since 5/2, and I called once to follow up. One should not hound a potential employer. It was a pleasant experience, but ghosting is something new to me. Am I still under consideration? What went wrong? A rejection is sometimes better than being left hanging.
- Tell me about a time you had to handle a challenging customer or colleague.
Logistics Supervisor
The interview process included questions based on my previous experience. Having worked in a Japanese company before would definitely be an advantage. The interviews were mainly conducted in English, Chinese, and Cantonese, with English being the primary language because the General Manager is Japanese and cannot speak Chinese.
- What makes you want to work for Murata?
- Tell me about your experience in Japanese companies.
- How comfortable are you with using English, Chinese, and Cantonese during interviews and work?
Contract Administrator
This was a super disrespectful interview process. I had FIVE rounds of interviews, and most of them required me to travel to their office, which was across the country, and they didn't even pay for my travel. On top of that, there was an extra round because one of the interviewers had their own issues and couldn't make it. During the interviews, one person seemed like they just printed my CV 30 seconds before, and she had no idea what she was talking about or asking. It felt like a waste of my time and money. Then, another interviewer rudely asked me my age, and then questioned why I don't have a job at my age. I'm only 20-something and just graduated. I don't understand why they cared or why she was even hired there.
- What is your age?
- Can you explain why you are currently unemployed at your age?
Product Engineer
So first, there was an initial HR call for about 30 minutes. Then, a longer call with HR and the hiring managers, which was about an hour. After that, I had to complete a personality assessment test, which took around 60 minutes. This was followed by another HR call to discuss the results of the personality assessment, lasting about 30 minutes. Finally, I had to give a presentation on a couple of topics they provided, which was 60 minutes long. Then they made their decision.
- Combination of basic questions asked
- Personality assessment test was given
- Presentation on a couple of given topics to make their decision
