First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Munger Tolles & Olson.
Communications Coordinator
Had an initial screening with HR. They were 15 minutes late to the call, and didn't really explain or apologize for it. It was also being recorded and live-transcribed, which made me feel a bit anxious subconsciously.
- What makes you want to join our company?
- What appeals to you about working at a law firm?
Business Professional
It was a three round process. The final round was a three hour in person session. First I spoke with a recruiter. Then I had a conversation with the direct boss. The last round included multiple stakeholders from the department. I waited over a week to hear back after investing several hours. That felt unprofessional.
- Can you walk me through your resume?
Data Governance Analyst
The first interview was with HR and it was really nice. She looked over my resume and asked me to give more details on each of my past roles. She let me know the interview was being recorded and that she was taking notes to pass along to the hiring manager. I felt it went really well and she said she would recommend me for the next round. However, she also mentioned they were looking at 40+ candidates and it was early in their search. I haven't heard back since. I'm not too upset because I don't think it would've been a good fit, but I am a bit annoyed they don't at least send a quick email letting me know my status. It isn't that hard to send a generic email saying they went with another candidate!
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
- Could you provide more details about your past roles?
Litigation Paralegal
You start by submitting your resume. Then you'll meet with the Paralegal Manager(s). After that, there's a second interview with two partners and one associate, plus one paralegal. During this second interview, the partners will ask standard questions about your past experience, trials you've worked on, and how you communicate. The paralegal managers will inquire about your teamwork skills, if you've led a trial, and your familiarity with programming. They'll call you about a week later to let you know if you're moving forward. Finally, they'll conduct a background and conflicts check before making an offer.
- Are you familiar with cite checking?
- Do you have experience working on trials?
- Are you willing to work overtime?
