First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mu Sigma.
Data Engineer
First, there was an HR call where they asked me about my strengths and weaknesses, and some basic questions about my resume. They wanted to know about the tech stack I used in my projects, any challenges I faced during development, and generally about the skills I have on my resume.
- Could you describe the most challenging period of your life?
Data Engineer
we had a group discussion, then a presentation, and then an objective exam covering reasoning, maths, English, and a writing exam for coding. After that, there was a non-technical round and then an HR round, but I didn't get the offer letter.

ETL Developer
The interview process was really long and kind of all over the place. Started with a phone call to see if my profile and tech skills were a good fit. After that, I had an in-person meeting at their office. They had me fill out some paperwork about my salary and notice period, and then the interview went on for over two hours. They asked about big data technologies like Hadoop, and also about ETL and data warehousing concepts. During the interview, they gave me a laptop for a hands-on test, but it wasn't set up well, so a lot of time was wasted just trying to get connected. The hands-on part was okay, but it would have been better if they had clear scenarios and a proper setup. It felt like a waste of time otherwise. Then came a weird assessment round with a theoretical questions paper covering SQL, Linux, ETL, and Hadoop definitions. All the answers are easily found online, so it didn't seem very meaningful, especially since there wasn't another round scheduled after it, making those questions pointless. Honestly, that part could have been done before the face-to-face meeting. The whole thing took over a month. After this, they told me I passed and asked for my documents. They went silent after that, and when I followed up, they said my notice period was too long. They asked about this a month before the interview, and I told them I had a three-month notice period, which they said was fine. They even had me write it down on the form and didn't mention it again. But in the end, they used my notice period as an excuse not to give me the offer. They were very unprofessional with how they planned the interviews, and the HR person didn't stand by her word, just wasting candidates' time. If it was an urgent need, they could have done it in one face-to-face meeting since the other rounds were just formalities. And if it's so urgent, why call candidates for so many rounds and ask for assignments and waste their time? They should be more professional.
- Can you tell me about Hadoop Concepts?
- How would you describe Joins in SQL?
- Can you walk me through some ETL Scenarios?
