The interview process was quite disorganized. I had two phone interviews with two different HR managers because the first one was leaving. The job I originally applied for was given to someone else the same day as my first phone interview, which was strange as they didn't inform me. Then, the second HR manager interviewed me for a management position that I'm not technically qualified for on paper. I had to do all the follow-ups myself throughout the process, even after their promised follow-up date. Finally, I was told the company felt they needed more experience. I felt like I was a last resort candidate. It all worked out for the best, though. I'm sure some of it was due to bad timing during their transition.

So, to get into MTD as a product tester, you gotta start as a temp, right? Like, go through one of the main temp agencies around here, Reserves Network in Brunswick. Or, even better, have a family member already working there, 'cause MTD is super family-oriented, and knowing people really opens doors. If you've got a relative, especially a close one, on your resume or application, it gives you a leg up if you've got the basic skills. You'll probably work as a temp or seasonal employee for about 2 years, usually over the summer. If you're reliable and work hard, you might get hired in when a spot opens up. It could happen sooner, maybe in the winter if someone quits 'cause they don't wanna deal with the cold. Just apply on the MTD website – a resume isn't really a big deal, just fill out the online form. Then, when a position does open up, the testing department manager will call you over to his desk and ask stuff like, "What will you do if you see someone doing something they shouldn't be doing?" You gotta say you'd report it up the chain of command, which is what I said and he liked. So, you pretty much just have that one interview with the testing manager, and then HR interviews you with some easy questions.

Behavioral Technical Other

I applied for the job about a month ago and then got a call from the HR Manager for a phone interview. It went for about 45 minutes and included some behavioral, skills, salary, and personality questions to check if I was a good fit. A few days later, I was invited for an on-site interview, which I accepted. The on-site had two 1:1s, one with HR that was pretty much the same as the phone call, and another with the Hiring Manager. It lasted around two hours. I asked about the decision timeline at the end. About three weeks after that, I found out I didn't advance to the next stage.

I had a phone interview, then a 4-hour in-person interview. The staff and HR person were really nice, but I haven't heard back yet. I followed up twice via email, and they had previously said the interview went well. It's a family-owned business with a big campus, and employee reviews are generally good. I'm not sure where I fell short in terms of presentation or qualifications, but people should still apply because the company is well-regarded. I'm still waiting to hear back.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The interview also included a lunch with the team, which was awkward because it was hard to eat and answer questions fully, let alone ask questions, while everyone else was eating.
