It took about 4 weeks for me to hear back after my interview, and then I got a denial letter. The interview itself wasn't too tough, mainly just standard behavioral questions. The people seemed nice enough, but like I heard, Motiva is known for its office politics. While I was waiting for my turn, I accidentally overheard them talking through the walls. They mentioned they had already decided on everyone except for one spot, even though it was only the first day of interviews. So, I figured I didn't really have a shot since I didn't know anyone on the inside.

First, there was an HR phone screen, then I spoke with the hiring manager on the phone. After that, I had a long day of interviews on-site. I met with the hiring manager and a senior leader first, then another senior leader by myself, and finally a group of my potential peers. The first on-site interview went well, but I got a heads-up about some issues with colleagues. They asked me about processes, my soft skills, and my software experience. The next interview was just with a senior leader, and it got pretty intense with questions about the 'political' problems in the role, focusing on one specific person. The questions were very direct, and the leader seemed really tough, almost comically so, given how much they emphasized the 'problem' person. It made me wonder how that person even got hired if the leader was so ruthless. The last interview had that 'problem' person along with two others, and they were right about the issues. The unprofessional behavior and bitterness were way over the top and really surprising. I was warned, but I expected more professionalism. I basically couldn't wait to leave because whoever takes this job is set up to fail. On top of that, the most senior person I met admitted they brought me in because I worked at a competitor briefly, not just based on my skills. I met the requirements on paper, but I think they mainly wanted competitor insights. It was disappointing because it was a long process, and it felt like a setup from the start.

I started with a long mechanical assessment that took a couple of hours and would be hard for anyone without mechanical experience. After passing, I was emailed about an interview with a 1-hour window and 5 days' notice. I tried to reschedule due to a conflict with my current employer, asking for a different time or a phone interview. They offered a phone interview at the same time. I reiterated my conflict, and they said they'd check for other availability. A week later, I got an email saying I was no longer being considered. I wish I'd had the chance to show my skills and talk to Motiva.
- Can you make yourself available on Tuesday at 8:30 AM?

There were two panel interviews on the same day. They asked behavioral and scenario-based questions. It wasn't too extreme; they mainly wanted to see who I am, if I'm eager to learn, dependable, and have a good work ethic overall. After the interviews, the HR representative mentioned it would take about 1-2 weeks to hear back. As expected, a week later I got an email with a conditional job offer, pending a drug screen, background check, and physical.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Describe a situation where you observed unsafe behavior. What action did you take, and what was the result?
- Share an experience of working with a difficult individual.
