It was a casual talk with a department supervisor and a senior consultant. They wanted me to give a quick summary of my career path. Some technical questions came up, but mostly we discussed my career and what the company offers.

It was a two-stage interview process: first a phone call, then the final round with the manager and lead. The interviewers were nice and we mostly talked about my previous jobs. After the interviews, HR contacted me for references. Unfortunately, after checking my references, HR found someone they thought was a better fit for the role. My references gave positive feedback.

Behavioral

I had an initial screening phone call, followed by interviews with HR and the Senior Department Manager. Instead of an interactive interview, I was instructed to email HR directly with any questions and was promised a response within a week, regardless of the outcome. However, I was left waiting, which was problematic as I had another job offer with a deadline. After two weeks of no response to my email, I found their process to be unprofessional and not aligned with my expectations.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

Had a pre-screening phone call with HR first, then an interview with a panel of department staff. They asked a bunch of questions about my general experience with technical report writing and field work, and if I was up for doing field work. It wasn't super deep into niche technical stuff, thankfully. There were also a couple of quick practical exercises, each about 15 minutes long. One was to condense an article into 75-100 words. The other involved looking at some chemical concentrations and suggesting something based on Ontario drinking water and contaminated site guidelines. You'll be fine if you can think on your feet.

  • What would you do if you ran into problems collecting samples in the field because of the site conditions?
