First, there was a nice HR screening call. After that, I had an interview with the hiring manager that felt really off. He went on about how work-life balance isn't a real thing. I thought he might be joking, so I asked again, but he insisted. At that point, I knew I probably wouldn't want to work there. He did eventually say he wouldn't make us work overtime, but the impression was already set.

I applied online and a recruiter got in touch a few days later with a basic questionnaire. Then I had an interview with the hiring manager. After that, there was a writing test that took about 2-3 hours. I also interviewed with some other team members and someone in upper management. Finally, there was a reference check and an offer. The whole thing took about a month. Everyone was really nice and took their time. It felt like a good process, not too much or too little.

So the interview process for Morning Brew was pretty standard. It started with an HR rep reaching out and asking some super basic screening questions, like about my salary expectations and where I'm located. I will say the salary for the role I interviewed for was way lower than I thought it would be. I had two rounds of interviews in total, talking to four people: the hiring manager, a team member, a senior manager, and a VP. Everyone was really nice and asked general stuff about my experience, why I wanted this job, what I knew about Morning Brew, and my career goals. Pretty standard interview questions. After meeting everyone, I got a generic rejection email from the HR person. Honestly, I didn't feel like my time as a candidate was really valued. A bunch of the interviewers were super late, like more than 5 minutes, to my interviews. One interview even got cut short because the interviewer had a sudden conflict. The people were nice, but the whole process felt kind of chaotic and cold.

The recruiter from Morningbrew contacted me for this position. The interview had standard questions, not very deep. The interviewer seemed bored with Automation and would just say, 'We would rely on the person we hire to figure that out.' when asked anything. They started with 'Why do you want to work at Morningbrew?' which felt odd given they reached out to me. It seemed like a decent company, but the initial impression didn't make me want to leave my current job.
