First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Morgan State University.
Project Coordinator
It was a graduate assistant position so it was pretty straightforward, I got the role as a student of the university. The graduate school sends a contract to the HR on your behalf.
- Can you describe your previous projects?
- How would you approach managing this specific project?
Study Abroad Coordinator
There were two rounds of interviews. The first was an hour-long panel interview and the second was with the head of the department. After these two rounds, I was ghosted. I sent multiple emails to show I was still interested, but the Director ignored them and ghosted me, which was very unprofessional. If you care about professionalism, basic courtesy, and working with people who aren't easily intimidated, you might want to consider other job opportunities.
- Could you share your favorite study abroad experience?
- What are your thoughts on working at an HBCU as opposed to a PWI?
- In what ways do you see yourself fitting into this role/environment?
Director
About 6 weeks after I applied, I got an email for an interview. It was a super short 30-minute panel interview with 3 people, done round-robin style. They didn't say it was a preliminary interview, but it felt like it because it was so short, even though the questions weren't basic. I didn't even get a chance to do the usual 'tell me about yourself' thing, and it felt really rushed.
- What makes you qualified for this position?
- Describe a situation where you had to deal with a difficult colleague.
- Can you share an instance where you felt frustrated and how you handled it?
Administrative Assistant
The interview process involved a typing test, an assessment of my MS Word abilities, and a proofreading test before I could interview with a department. The equipment used for testing seemed really old and in need of repair, unless it's been updated since. I got hired by the university and was given a start date that wasn't the same as the department I was hired for. I started working in the office three weeks after my first interview.
