I talked with the department chair first. They seemed really interested in finding the right person. The chair answered all my questions and even suggested other people I could talk to for more info. Then, I interviewed with the divisional dean. They were just as thoughtful and engaging, maybe even more so.

We talked about my skills and what I could bring to the role. We also discussed salary and the potential start date. I already knew my potential employer from before, so I mentioned how much I wanted to work with her program. She told me she had a position she thought I was a good fit for. Because colleges have budgets and need approvals for jobs, it took a while to confirm the salary and budget. I got offered the job in June 2013, and I took it.

  • What are your thoughts on working with teenagers?
