First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Monzo Bank.
Principal Product Manager
We kicked off with a TA screening call, which was a relaxed chat. Next was the Hiring Manager Call, where it was good to have a few strong examples of product leadership related to the discussion. Then came the Product Loop, which consisted of a FAANG-style live case study with a fake company, not related to Monzo. You should prepare some frameworks to help structure your ideas, but be ready for them to grill you in all directions. There was also a Product Presentation of your own work. Finally, a Leadership / Values Interview involved a deep discussion on a couple of your past experiences, focusing on why it was hard, and above all, what you learned from it.
- Can you share an instance where you had to make a decision without having sufficient data?
- Could you describe your most significant product mistake and the lessons you derived from it?
- Given your experience with a major product mistake, what guidance would you offer to a new product owner to help them avoid a similar pitfall?
Product Manager
The whole process was super clear and they kept me in the loop the whole time. First, I had a recruiter call, then a call with the hiring manager. After that, I had to give a presentation about a product I had previously launched. The final stage was a loop with a product case study and a behavioral interview. My recruiter called me between each stage to explain exactly what they were looking for and what I needed to do to prepare. It was tough and required a lot of prep, but I felt good that my prep was on the right track.
- Questions about your product development skills.
- Questions about your dedication to the company's mission.
- Questions about your teamwork abilities.
Product Manager
The interview process has three main steps. First, there's a screening call to check your qualifications and if you're a good fit. A recruiter or HR person usually does this. If you pass that, you'll talk more with the hiring manager about your experience and skills for the job. Finally, you'll do a case study. They'll give you a problem or situation to look at and then you'll present your ideas and how to fix it. This part tests your practical skills and how you solve problems.
- Can you give me an overview of your resume?
- Tell me about a product you were involved with.
