Account Development Representative
For the Account Development Representative (ADR) gig at MongoDB, it's a whole process with a few steps to see if you've got the communication chops, the drive, how you solve stuff, and if you know your way around SaaS or databases. First up, a recruiter will chat with you to go over your background, why you're into MongoDB, and if you fit the job. Then, expect some questions about your past experiences, your sales attitude, how you deal with hearing 'no,' and what keeps you going. They might also throw a sales scenario or role-play at you, where you'll pretend to call or email someone to see how you'd check if they're a good fit and get them interested in MongoDB. After that, you'll likely chat with the hiring manager or a panel to dive deeper into your sales approach, how you work with others, and how you might grow here. MongoDB really cares about people being curious, open to learning, and matching their values, so be ready for questions about your future plans and how flexible you are.
- Can you share some basic information about yourself?
- What key takeaways did you gain from your past employment experiences?
- They seem to value product knowledge quite highly; could you elaborate on that?
Account Development Representative
This was one of the more challenging interviews I've experienced. I made it to the final stage, but then there was a 4-week wait before I heard back. Although I've tackled many technical product interviews before, this one genuinely tested me. They dive deep into technical aspects of their product and place a strong emphasis on your sales abilities. It's definitely not an entry-level position, but it's a great chance to see how a successful data company markets its platform. Just a heads-up, my attempt to negotiate the offer, due to a pay cut from my current job, was unsuccessful.
- Can you explain what a database is?
- What motivates you to pursue a career in sales?
Account Development Representative
This was the longest, most confusing interview process I've ever been through. If a company requires over 8 interviews and multiple take-home assignments that take more than 40 hours of your time spread over months, just imagine what they'll expect from you for free once you're hired and they have you. Watch out for the red flags, as there are many. They might promise a career path from BDR to CRO, which isn't realistic, so don't fall for it. The company has high turnover, though they won't admit it. Their sales targets are unrealistic, and the list of issues goes on.
- They'll ask a mix of sales-related and technical questions.
