First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Momentus.
Spacecraft Systems Engineer
Started with a recruiter chat, then spoke with the hiring manager. Did a virtual tour with the hiring manager and recruiter. Was supposed to interview with the VP but that step got skipped, and they basically told me they intended to hire me. But it seems like they didn't actually have the money to hire anyone for the role.
- How does your current experience map to the job requirements?
Embedded Software Engineer
The interview process at Momentus Space was pretty good, though it happened during Covid so it might be different now. It had 4 main parts. First, I talked to a recruiter to see if I was a good fit and what Momentus was looking for. Then, I had a 20-minute chat with the team Manager about myself and why I applied, followed by 10 minutes of technical questions on uploading a bootloader via CAN bus, SPI protocol, and designing a code module. The next part was a 2-hour coding interview where instead of coding live, I had to review someone's GitHub repo for an hour and then spend another hour discussing improvements with the Manager, focusing on modularity. Finally, there was a 4-hour virtual onsite with multiple 30-minute or hour-long sessions with different people, covering both technical and personal questions. It was a positive experience that made me want the job more due to how friendly everyone was and what they've learned there.
- Considering you only need to receive data from an SPI module and not send any, how many wires would be necessary for the connection?
- When analyzing different protocols, how would you differentiate between using a Logic Analyzer and an Oscilloscope, and what factors would lead you to choose one over the other?
- What is the significance of the 'Volatile' keyword in programming?
Mechanical Engineer
The interview process was quite pleasant compared to others. I got to interview directly with my potential manager, which helped me make a good impression. For a new company, it felt really organized.
- What do you consider your greatest engineering strength?
Propulsion Engineer
The hiring manager reached out to me directly via email to schedule an interview. We had an hour-long chat. In the first round, the manager explained the role and their expectations, and I had the opportunity to share my background. I was asked to discuss a project I'm proud of, and the rest of the discussion covered my resume and any suggestions I had. There was ample time for questions, so I'd recommend being well-prepared about yourself, your resume, and having many questions ready. You'll find out about the second round in a few days to two weeks, so be sure to ask about the timeframe. The second round involves presenting your proudest project to the team. They'll provide detailed guidance on timing. It's essentially three 30-minute rounds. The first 30 minutes are for your presentation and Q&A. The next round consists of a group asking you questions about your presentation, resume, and hypothetical scenarios based on your expertise. The third round is similar, with another group questioning you. Initially, both groups are present for your presentation, then they divide. The atmosphere is quite relaxed; the team is very pleasant and friendly, making it feel more like catching up with colleagues at a conference. Afterward, a decision is made, and you'll be notified within a certain period. A helpful tip: watch YouTube videos from Precious Payloads about Momentus, including presentations by Negar and the former CEO, as they offer valuable insights and can help you formulate great questions.
