First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Moelis & Company.
Investment Banking Analyst
It was very technical and cold. The associate who interviewed me was really focused on market knowledge and drilling down into specific technical areas. Less focus was placed on behavioral questions. You should be prepared because it starts right from the first round.
- Could you explain a question related to EBITDA calculation?
- What's the current price of the S&P 500?
Investment Banking Analyst
This was a 2-round interview process. The first round was with an Associate, and the second round was with an Executive Director and Managing Director. Both rounds included a mix of technical and behavioral questions. The interviewers seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me better, rather than just asking the typical 400 investment banking questions.
- Tell me about your background.
- Can you discuss your previous work experience?
Investment Banking Analyst
First, there were some initial calls with HR just to check if I was available and to ask some behavioral questions. After that, I had a 30-minute Zoom call with a senior team member to see if I was a good fit for the role.
- Could you explain the Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis?
- What's the impact on the three main financial statements when there's a change in depreciation?
- Regarding an M&A transaction, when selling assets or stock, does it dilute or accrete value for the buyer?
