First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Moelis & Company.
Intern
Applied online via their portal. First, there was a 30-minute behavioral and 30-minute technical interview with an associate and an analyst. Then, attended an in-person Assessment Centre (AC) with multiple interview rounds.
- Can you walk me through your résumé?
- What makes you interested in Moelis & Company?
- Why are you pursuing investment banking?
Investment Banking Intern
The first round involved two analysts, each for 30 minutes, covering technical and behavioral aspects. Technical topics included DCF, precedent transactions, LBOs, and multiples. There were also a couple of paper LBO questions. Behaviorally, they asked about sector knowledge. The final round had three parts: an interview with a senior banker, an individual case study, and a group interview (which wasn't finance-related).
- What impact would an increase in depreciation have on the three financial statements?
Internship
The interview process wasn't too bad. My first interview was with one of the employees. They asked if I knew what was special about their company, which I didn't really know. He mentioned something about 'not having a balance sheet, but instead they have a virtual one' whatever that means.
