First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Modern Campus.
Sales Director
The interview process at Modern Campus was pretty well-organized. It started with a recruiter call and went all the way to the final talks with the hiring team. They kept me in the loop and responded quickly. The interviewers really knew their stuff about the product and the market, so we had good, in-depth talks instead of just basic Q&A. The questions they asked felt like they were really about the job, and they seemed genuinely interested in my background and how I'd connect with their customers in higher education. It didn't feel like a pointless process. Each chat actually made me more excited about the role.
- What are your thoughts on the evolving higher education landscape?

The interview process was pretty standard. First, I had an interview with the hiring manager. Then, I completed a technical assessment covering different technologies and programming languages. After that, I had a technical interview with the team. Finally, there was a skip-level interview focusing on my experience with processes and previous projects, and an HR round to go over benefits and other details.
- Can you describe how you resolved a production outage in a previous job?

I found this job on ziprecruiter.com. First, an HR person called me to set up an interview with the Director of Implementation. This call involved general HR questions, and we scheduled the next interview. The second round was a phone call with the Director. He asked about my skills and work experience from my resume, seemed interested in getting to know me better, and gave me login details for a test. The test involved 10 tasks on their CMS system, with links to documentation for each. Some tasks involved converting static regions to editable ones using OmniUpdate tags, and there was a server-side include task. The tasks got harder, with later ones requiring knowledge of XML, XSLT, and XPATH. Completing all tasks wasn't mandatory, but I should try them all. I couldn't finish them all. The third round was a Webex with the Director and the VP, where I shared my screen. I explained the tasks I completed, but my work wasn't up to par, and I made some significant mistakes. The fourth round was a rejection email from HR because I didn't perform as expected. They expected candidates to be able to preview webpages before publishing and wanted to understand our approach and how well we learned the system, even if we didn't finish all tasks.
- It would be best to start working on their tasks early. Please read and understand their documentation, especially the content and the links provided in the tasks. It took me a lot of time and trial and error to figure out what was needed. Don't hesitate to contact them if something is unclear. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, XML, XSLT is mandatory.

Had an initial phone chat with the Director of Implementations. Then I had a second Skype round with the Director and the Implementation Manager. I also completed what I could of the skills test. My advice is to read and pay attention to the details, and don't wait until the last minute to do it.
