I applied via the SOA and company websites. A recruiter called and set up a phone interview with a hiring manager. Then I had an in-person interview that was supposed to be 3 hours long, with 6 back-to-back 30-minute interviews with team members. However, one person was sick, another was late, one interviewer talked about her dog, and my last interview was only 15 minutes. They asked a lot of questions unrelated to the job and repeated questions I'd already answered. There's no onsite parking, so plan ahead. Bring water because they don't offer any and you'll get thirsty.

The interview process was fine. The technical interview was pretty standard, you know, that traditional, somewhat cold and rigid style that makes you stumble over your words and freeze up. I admit I didn't do great and usually struggle when the interview feels like a live exam, so I wasn't totally shocked I didn't get a third interview. That's not necessarily what left a bad taste, though I think it's a terrible way to assess someone's skills. What really rubbed me the wrong way was the recruiter. At first, he was almost overly friendly and super chatty; he told me about his grandma and how she's always trying to get him to move back home... we joked we were old friends by the end of the first interview. He gave me a lot of positive feedback, and we emailed and spoke on the phone a few more times trying to schedule the second interview. The point is, it felt like a personal, seemingly genuine human interaction. A few days later, I emailed the recruiter to follow up, and he immediately sent me a generic rejection email. And when I say generic, I mean it was so frigid it made the automatic rejections you get after firing off an 'easy apply' resume on LinkedIn seem like a love note. It didn't even use my name, just 'candidate,' and he never signed his name after the 'kind regards,' that the email pre-wrote. It just felt icky and a bit disrespectful. There's little dignity in job hunting, especially with this brutal market... it's processes like this that make it that much more disheartening.

We did a phone interview to get things rolling. After that, I had a second interview with HR, and then a third one with the call center supervisor. The HR and supervisor interviews were back-to-back on the same day. The interviews were mostly focused on my soft skills, like how I handle de-escalation and my experience with upset customers. They didn't really ask much about medical or insurance knowledge.

Behavioral Other

The interview process and communication with HR was great, I really liked the conversation and learning about the employee benefits. Understanding benefits is a big part of choosing where to work. After the main interview with the department staff, which was on Zoom, I haven't heard back. It's disappointing to not get a response, even a rejection, after going through the interview process.
