& Process

The interview process started with a recruiter call from HR, which was great, friendly and professional. This was followed by a video interview call with the hiring manager, and then an in-person interview onsite. The interview itself felt professional but cold; it was hard to tell if my interviewers were engaged or enjoyed working at the company, as none of them smiled and one had a bored tone. Since the interview is a two-way street to see if the applicant is a good fit and if the company is a good fit for the applicant, I didn't get a sense that they enjoyed their jobs or that I would enjoy working with this team daily. mOcean seems to expect employees to stay for several years, which is understandable, but to achieve that, the workplace and culture need to be appealing for long-term commitment.

I applied for the internship and got a first round interview. The application required two letters of recommendation. You send your application to an employee at mOcean rather than applying online. The initial intern program was cancelled, but they emailed me later saying they were going to try to do an online internship if I was still interested. I was then sent an offer.

I was in the third round of interviews and things were going well and moving fairly quickly. The Social Director asked me to do a test assignment and I submitted the five part assignment two days after it was sent to me. The Director said she would review it and get back to me soon but I never heard back from her or the recruiter I was in touch with. After two weeks I reached out to the Social Director and received no response, and shortly after I reached out to the recruiter with no response as well. It's extremely disappointing to go through all that work and spend hours on the test assignment all to not even have the courtesy of getting a rejection email or call. Really unprofessional experience and would not recommend wasting time with this company.

I was contacted in mid-July for a phone interview. We spoke within 48 hours, had a good interview, and I was promised a follow-up within several days. The recruiter followed up a week later informing me they'd gone with other candidates. No reasons were given for this decision, and my request for clarification and feedback have thus far been ignored. So while I'm not surprised, I am still disappointed by this lack of basic professional courtesy.
