I was found by a recruiter online and they emailed me for a phone interview. I prepped my Java and algorithms knowledge. The phone interview was technical, covering my resume skills and some algorithm problems. I got a call the next day to set up an onsite interview. The onsite had 6 employees doing 1:1 interviews. Each person gave me a problem-solving or basic coding algorithm question, which were manageable if I reviewed my languages and algorithms. They bought me a sandwich during the day, which was a nice touch. The whole process was quick, and I got a reply within a day after the onsite.

The interview process started with a nice phone screening. My first interviewer was the Head of QA, someone I’d gladly work with – brilliant and a pleasure to talk to. Then I spoke with someone who seemed to be a VP. They focused on industry topics, managerial politics, and leadership experiences from my past roles, which was also a good conversation. After that, I had an interview with a Senior Engineer who appeared to have some issue with my previous employer, possibly from a past interview where he wasn't chosen. I don't remember interviewing him, so it might have been my boss’s unique criteria. I stumbled a bit during our talk about storage, mixing up terabytes and petabytes due to nervousness. Next was another Senior SA, very charming and technically skilled, who posed some great problem-solving questions. The fourth interviewer was someone who came up from the 'Op's' ranks. They were friendly and asked standard textbook questions in a non-threatening way. It became apparent I needed to brush up on some web engineering skills I hadn’t used in a while. Seeing a postit note on the door as we left made me think that was the end of the line and I hadn't made it. Overall, it was a long and tiring process, but valuable experience since I hadn't interviewed much recently. Things have certainly changed since the 'Manic Recession.'

So basically I got a call from a technical recruiter first. He asked me about my background. Then, after 2 days, I had a phone interview with the manager. He asked me some basic concepts about Java, MySQL, and my University projects. After my telephone interview, I got an email from the recruiter saying they want to schedule an onsite interview. The onsite interview itself lasted for about 3 hours and consisted of 5 rounds. I received an offer a week after.

The interview was fairly simple, just show basic competency in the technologies used and the ability to troubleshoot and escalate when you are fairly sure that you are unable to resolve the issue in a reasonable amount of time.
