Field Service Technician
The interview involved testing your tech skills, discussing your tech skills, engineering experience, and principles. It also covered routing and connecting service equipment, testing security, dealing with security issues, and your basic work pipeline, including the tools and methods you use.
- Can you elaborate on your technical skills?
- Tell me about your engineering experience and principles.
Product Manager
I got an interview set up by a recruiter. Apparently, other candidates had been submitted and then rejected because they were too marketing focused. I passed the initial phone screen with the recruiter. Then, in the actual interview, the interviewer explained that a good candidate for this role would need to be able to push a schedule through the team, even with small disruptions happening. They'd also need to be good at making strong business cases and be able to guide mechanical engineers and industrial designers to come up with specific solutions. On top of that, the person would be meeting with clients and looking into new business opportunities. The job itself is about accessories, like USB connectors and security keys, that go with main products like the Freedom line. I didn't get an offer, and they didn't give much feedback afterward.
- Can you share an instance where you developed and got a business case approved by senior management?
- Tell me about a time you had to drive a schedule with your team through interruptions.
- How would you approach presenting solid business cases?
Software Engineer
This process was long and drawn out, and they were not clear about where I was in the process. They didn't even reject me, just ignored my email. The team seemed cool and the work interesting, and I passed all the technical parts. I think the decision came from someone higher up, based on reviews for an app I built in my free time. This was disappointing because they thought reviews reflected my teamwork skills. It made no sense since I work on a big project with multiple people daily at a fortune 500 company. He didn't ask about that, but focused on my personal app, which I built to improve my skills. It seems like he had no tech experience and based the decision on things he understood, like app reviews being an end-of-year review. It's ironic because the reviews were from trolls, but he took them seriously. I guess it could be worse. I don't think I got a fair shot and was disregarded due to troll reviews.
- Could you explain the reason behind the troll reviews for the app you developed, and what insights they provide about your teamwork capabilities?
QA Engineer
I went through 9 conversations over a week. I spoke with the product manager, director, and vp, and they were all awesome. They were open, honest, asked good questions, and really wanted to find the right person. The interview process was direct and great, but the recruiter was super pushy and felt like a hard sell, which wasn't ideal.
- Could you share details about your background?
- Explain why you believe you'd be a strong candidate for this position.
- How do you see your past experience contributing to the project as described?
